That is brought so much horror and destruction -- the world. The common sense and common decency of ordinary men and women. Working out their own lives in their own way this is the heart of American conservatives. Conservatives wisdom and principles and derive from willingness to learn. He does not attack private unions who have backed him. That's fine. So. Chuck Todd NBC's Chuck Todd says he's reported that. The coach and only campaign asked Christie campaign and he -- The same Christie has gone to move South Carolina to campaign for Lindsay Graham not because he gives a damn about Lindsey Graham because he wants to be president. My body any McCarthy who happens to live managers and. Responding to the the cult of personality. That has become too many people at national review for Chris Christie as it was for Romney as it was for McCain and so forth and so I'm. During a discussion there he makes these points which I thought work. Quite important. He said Cory Booker was leaps and bounds more popular among Democrats and Christie's challenger. They're relatively unknown. Barbara won't know now she's completely and now. Should have been on the ballot as a US Kennedy here in New Jersey yesterday but he was not. But the state legislature -- The state assembly. Which is the closest to the people hell. In a huge question. There other state in which this happens and can happen in other states in which it won't happen but the fact of the matter -- In a majority of the states we have Republican legislature. And 2008 sort average two to three prosecutions a year. Didn't matter Democrat Republican it would -- series really loosely -- lose and use law because it's so vague in a way that it's written. The Obama administration comes in and they ended 2009 there -- more than a 150 investigations. And as we outlined in the block. You know who's targeted groups thought you have he'll Coke industries as targets for investigation you have wal mart's. -- yet News Corp. which of course owns Fox News. All the major individuals that are seen by this administration is not supportive of their agenda. Are targeted in -- foreign corrupt practices act allows them literally true. To file criminal charges not only against the executive who might have committed the offense. How vaguely defined but also board members. -- and so you know and they targeted after the 2010 mid term elections mark. They targeted to certain industries that has been very supportive of the Tea Party like the independent oil and gas industry these kind of small to -- -- and gas companies. They've given four times as much to Republicans is Democrats during that mid term election when the Tea Party helped regain congress. A couple of days after those mid term elections they set out a letter a so called industry -- rhetoric that says we are now investigating you for violation of this law. You can face jail time you'd better come clean and if you know of anybody else in the industry that's broken the law. We're gonna investigate each it was a clear act of intimidation. This really is like old Soviet stuff here and that that is aren't so you have that going on. And justice which is incredible. As you say I was chief of staff to a trailer that we would never even thought of that sort of thing and then. Then you have at the IRS a direct assault. On Tea Party groups correct. Absolutely absolutely in this is that this is the problem we -- reaching a point where. Extortion you know we think of what goes on Washington DC so much in terms of kind of like bribery you know. It's like Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington these kind of innocent people come and they get. Corrupted by all these outside influences. That happens I guess sometimes people get. You know accumulated to the acclimated to the culture in DC but he bigger problem is not just. Bribery it's extortion. If people would come and they have power of the federal government has become so large and so powerful marked that they now literally. Can't identify laws are identified pressure point and they didn't intimidate. -- -- powerful corporations and individuals into basically paying protection money. We're getting them to lay off of their political activities first fear that they can have a book thrown -- them or bad things will happen. Company and part of the problem is there's so many laws and rules and regulations and the bureaucracy can issue so many unilaterally. People don't even know I mean the average person doesn't even though. Where they're strict criminal liability and so forced on people say we need more regulations we need more regulations. They really don't understand the power that they are arguing to confer on this federal leviathan do that. No that's that's exactly right mark on the I quote in the book Alan Dershowitz you know that the law professor Harvard and he says that. The average professional in America unwittingly. Probably to -- to -- felonies that day. Because there's so many felonies. There's so many statutes are so vaguely written and that if you are sort of be motivated attorney general prosecutor. You can find a person and then to figure out what climbed to pin on them. The other thing that happens is this sort of regulatory extortion where. You know you wonder why these bills like you know Dodds frank you know the financial reform bills like 2000 plus pages long. Nobody understands what the heck is and that bill. That's by design mark because literally the people that -- -- -- that works for senator bought in from congressman Barney Frank. After that law became law. Quit their jobs and they opened up consulting firms and you know what they did -- started charging corporation's. Six figure consulting fees. To interpret the law that they had written it's basically like -- regulation just like ancient Egyptian language -- transcript. But nobody can understand that they know you've got to -- needs to interpret the law but I rent stats extortion and that goes on. All the time. This this is just hard I mean I -- -- it's just hard to stomach the book is extortion and talking to Peter Schweitzer who's a real patriot. Now Peter so we have this institutionalized. Criminalizing of basic. You know conduct. But there's other things and it's not just Democrats it's not just a bureaucracy. You write a fairly scathing account of how John Boehner conducts themselves. Yes and that's just this is an example of how the political party establishment. You know are are really view this as a business I think when when a lot of us. Our concern about what the situation is in our country we think a bit in terms of ideas we think about the future. We think about it in terms of political philosophy. Fortune many of the guys inside the beltway I think frankly including speaker Boehner they view this as a business. And you know here's the bottom line I'm mark -- the business model that works in Washington DC is not fixing problems it's not reducing the debt. Could put everything worked out way nobody there would get an eight. So they come up with all these methodologies and approaches one of the things that happens all the time -- What they -- medical bills now on the walker still has nothing to do with the dairy industry. If -- -- that's design which is introducing mr. trying to scare the crap out of a company. Or an industry. Because then the politicians are gonna nuke them. For campaign donations in for lobbying and consulting gigs for their -- now. This this is worse than a damn mob. -- -- some unbelievable. So they -- on so they come up with these phony bills. To scare the hell out of one industry or one group after another and then they make contributions to some congressman disseminated to help them stop. -- -- That's exactly like -- protection money it's like the -- the guys who show up pitcher grocery store and say. Hey you know let -- be real shame that this building burned down you know and you pretty much get -- get the idea what's going on. The Obama administration are executed what you could call eight double milk a bill in 2011. Win. They basically pitted. Hollywood and the high tech industry against each other these -- -- very wealthy industries. They like to Obama they were coughing up money so the Stop Online Piracy Act which was a bill Hollywood wanted and the high tech industry did not wants. -- -- administration basically executed this double -- bill because everybody was wondering just -- Obama to -- this bill or not is being supported it or not. And they waited and for the course of almost the entire year market -- milk too broad slide for massive donations creating this arms race. And then what Hollywood executives were tapped out they had -- well we're not to support the -- lateral. But this sort of stuff goes on all the time both sides do it as one of the reasons nothing gets done on Capitol Hill. You wonder why he's been all right time up there and they never do your career problems there's nobody in real problem -- the money is in doing these local built and doing what John Boehner does with that this called the tollbooth. Which is another method of extraction. He's he is a very successful. A fund raiser my understanding is he spends an enormous amount of his time traveling the country raising millions and millions of dollars and uses that. In order to influence. Votes and influence loyalty by supporting certain people in this party and and hold and withholding money is that correct. That's exactly right -- here here's one of the funny things is that. Yeah there's a law in and the ethics rules say that few members of congress cannot come to negotiate or get. -- campaign donations in there congressional offices in the cannot be linked to legislation if you and I went into congressional office and and did that. It's a crime which could end up going to jail there's an exception not when it's written into the rule the exception is. Other members of congress. And there are numerous times that we highlight in the book -- John Boehner. There's an important vote where he needs to get people to back him and the Tea Party is resisting him and the horse and makes actual work. He literally doles out cash on the day of the vote. Sometimes 5101000 dollar donations from his leadership -- Two Republicans veterans basically. Moderate Republicans that are -- safe seats. But the way he gets loyalty if you can literally buying their votes for Democrats course to -- -- saying they're not just -- that does this. But -- is awash in both flying from the leadership and they're using these leadership pacs and this is a way that they try to maintain discipline not by appealing to them on principal. But by appealing to their pocketbook. And basically paying off. You know Peter Schweitzer I have to go you donate an enormous public service with -- -- extortion mr. produce and make sure it's up on my social sites -- need to get a copy of this. When he get a copy this get a copy of mind to celebrity amendments because I'm convinced now more than ever Peter. That -- from my perspective that we got to bypass this process we've got to go through the constitution. This this they're never gonna reform themselves these people they just need to begin schtick too powerful the two -- But I want to thank you for your outstanding book extortion -- done a great job just look over your shoulder from time to time. I tell you brother I appreciate that very much all right god bless you take serious. You believe this stuff. Have a sweet Tea Party conservatives you know we're aware -- -- -- -- In the -- something. With the so called rough and it's ridiculous point discard Saturday. And they were there won't impeach him. But I'm fired him and I -- -- your hundred million more people stand up and say they're -- Favre -- Obama Lutheran assurance. This -- it was sort of this country's credit he's just my country. He is. And unfortunately he's not the only one but he's certainly the most aggressive one and -- district Peter Schweitzer about what congress is doing including Republicans. You know this is a big game to these people it's a big gap. You know power urged they really they really they really live their lives pushing people around telling people what to do shaken down businesses restructuring society. We are so I'm more from our heritage we are so different the -- the framers intended. And yet -- when millions of us do speaker millions of us follow the proper civil political roots to reform. Unknown to restoring to a -- restoring the republic we are attacked. I noted -- impeach him. That's why they regatta march on Washington and audited sky -- -- we have marched on Washington and there's no way to sirens again. Washington is not the answer Washington's the problem Washington is not gonna reform itself you've heard about Obama is Justice Department is disgusting. -- -- on -- credit held a Boehner buys votes and controls his caucus. This is going on all over the place this is a swamp. Did they -- me mosquito infested swamp and so what you have to do is go around it not swim -- -- god bless you my friend 81 years old I appreciate it. Very very much. Only a few minutes. Until -- depart the airwaves here ladies and gentlemen in one place them. The first hour when I was trying to get across I think that it. May affect how posted shortly on my -- social sites and by the way while I'm gone checked the social sites -- site posts things all the time. Virginia. Is an example. Of one. It's an example the American spirit. Despite all the odds despite all these groups and people we've been talking about the sabotage the betrayal the disloyalty. The lies the commercial the money. The self interest that cronyism and it was all here. Like a disgusting cesspool. A man with integrity. -- with -- ethics and morality. And then with a stellar public service record. He almost took the state. He was almost elected government. I know people are disappointed all over the country when they see. David lose to -- but the fact of the matter. But we've demonstrated is they can throw everything they -- us and we're still in the fight. We will win some and we will loosen. But that means they're gonna lose some -- And that's a very very important. So I talk about us approaching this two ways and I mean. One way is there a game where we have to fight we can't give up because it has real consequences if we do. As you see in these have battles in. Over the Republican Party over the conservative movement in the states and so forth and the other is a track that we must follow because ultimately it is the only resource. That's the constitution. The state legislatures. And one day some way you can help. Lead that effort ladies and gentlemen we salute our armed forces police officers firefighters and emergency personnel. These safe America. Please come back tomorrow and Friday I will see you on Monday. And I mark the event.
