And good evening welcome to tonight's sprint can't -- show a little bit different situation than many of our shows this year I guess the audit Creighton was somewhat similar to this -- had -- a full evening hours six to seven and that's the case tonight will be here for the full -- so we'll get some time to take some phone calls first of all he'd like to give -- call. At 43613. Thirty Andrea handling our producer you'll be happy to hooking up with -- so if you have questions for -- Love to hear from you. And the one exception to the -- situation is there's no game at all today we don't have an earlier game to talk about it not. That probably arrived just the right time it's been a tough week in terms of just. Delays and long days and late nights in and I think you guys -- really well well a week ago.

The for the yes second Dallas Baptist came after Jordon Cooper thrown really well. We're getting ready player a Friday night game with Tim Kelly on the man and we yet the very end we said okay a week from now would that be great to have it undefeated week. Where were set here are not playing a game today and we're gonna play in the championship tomorrow and that happens so anytime you -- six and -- for the week you gotta be happy. We played some good people were playing good baseball like you said there's been some long days from rain delays. We got out here last night with a game inning like 135. People's that's in BC I think that's where the NBC helped us which -- as it was no big -- it's we've we've done that many times over the years. Bits you know we -- rolled with the flow and our guys have played well we seem to be clicking on all cylinders at the right time.

You know last night at. I know that I mean we've talked about this many times you don't acknowledge the elements you don't acknowledge. Adversarial situations that it was. Awfully late in the one thing that cat has stood out last night. Actually a couple of things it was just a little sloppy your for both teams -- mean they mated here they gave the couple around Jamaica players that gave them runs. Couple your pitchers forty sharp as they typically are. And as much as you try to tune all that stuff out play until 1:30 in the morning has to have a little bit of the fact.

Some of that -- well it does because you know you're geared up for 730 game -- thinking there's going to be 56000. In the in the stands. In you don't play you don't start till 1040 Leo was. And hats off to our crowd we still had two or 3000 here -- we have that many are close to that many it at 1:30 in the morning. So our fans continue to amazes. But that's a big adrenaline for us we hope we had a kind of crowd tomorrow. But the players like you say they've got to learn to deal with whatever. -- set around you can get lucky you can count immediately RG. Which you know what. We heard a lot better situation in Evansville I tip my hat to Evansville. They play what the 1230 game were supposed to and they were hanging around with the rain delay and in. It's a lot different when -- and it -- homer in your office in my case as opposed them hanging out in the dugout and then they finish that game. And I'm not sure what they did during the three errors in between but I think if you go home -- you probably really get flat so. I tip my hat to him. They played a great game they played hard and it's not easy for anybody but it was really tough for heaven's -- I was really impressed with the way they --

And a couple of things that mention the years and and so forth they kept coming back and and in my mind. That's the kind of game that you've lost a few this year that your team has let get away from them and I thought maybe it was significant that that even though it wasn't a thing of beauty all the time that you found a way to win that game. No question.

In and you're exactly right that's the game that is the game went on. You start getting a little feeling like okay we need to be added on right here we need to keep score we can't get flat and let them stay in the game because they're -- in the game. And you know we were we were getting around here they're -- we were they were they were hanging around. -- and we gave -- a couple runs in and in wild pitch one run home and in Cody last in an effort to get the other guy at the plate through ball away in another run scored. So all of a sudden it's six to five that's like different field and six to three. And then we didn't score on the top of the ninth or excuse me in the bottom of the gates would go to the top of the ninth. And -- it's the first guy. It is a left handed hitter Wallace so we're -- outrage now Cody picks up eighteen home runs yet so that's that's a little bit unnerving. Well he gets him to -- does a double play a great term buy yet Tyler Grimes and walker Davidson can play defense says two out nobody on woman walks -- next guy thank OK here we -- could this get -- more stressful. That he gets Nate Smith the next show two and hits him with a slider. So it's first and second in the next guys seem like it was about a thirty -- AB. But he ends up getting ground ball walker Davidson kind of bubble around just to make sure that we got ever -- in the and we get him out of bang bang play at first base. But those are the game sometimes you lose in in the new reclaiming your head on -- it's an okay. Why do we make this -- there whether we feel this ground ball. Why didn't we get on top of the ball here you start looking at all the things happen warn you when you like -- great win. We got to win some games like that they're not all going to be. Beautiful Picasso type games there's going to be some ugly ones and you forget about it thank lax beautiful that's kind of what happened. Now I think it's coaches reported some things up today which don't make too big -- because you don't wanna talk anybody in. -- mindset because we've been playing really well so I think today it was a great be practice. I think everybody has a positive outlet who wanted to Morris of announces matter counting your business. Lot of performances to talk about as we go on but I think that the first. Let's get to the big question on everyone's mind is Jordon Cooper you're starter tomorrow coming back on three dangerous yes and have an asset alike you know week. Over the years that we really haven't made a secret of how much your excess when people will bring guys back. Wing and they haven't had proper rest. Like you know. Eighteen years ago or what are we had a team through August 200 pitches back to back days. You'll see guys throw on one day rest and make strong hundred pitches and that's just makes my skin crawl. But with three days rest I'm comfortable that it could have been two would have been now. That's why was so antsy about -- in the came in on Tuesday. Because of rain pushes that into Wednesday we would have Cooper mark but with three days' rest you see that the big league level you see especially at the World Series time. And we've done that before we did it Greg Brown in Omaha we will go with a three day rest thing I just don't think you can do it over and over again. But were comfortable doing that -- Jordon Cooper and now he's comfortable with that he's lobbied like two weeks ago -- at that this format. Talk to me if -- through Tuesday we'll get to throw Saturday and that's it. And you just worry about one game at a time yes the answers yes. And I think he feels comfortable with it so from an abuse standpoint I'm totally comfortable that it's fine. But the question is you know he hasn't done. He hasn't thrown on three days' rest so. You know we're senate Jordon Cooper out there you feel good about it because of the kind of year he's haven't in the panic Kris had the kind of make -- he has. And you thank you your mind okay he's going to be fine bit. You're not a 100% sure that he's going to be. Jordan -- we don't know because he hasn't thrown on three days' rest I don't wanna make everybody all panicky right now are just on what's real I think you'll be fine. I think we'll see is a game but he hasn't thrown out.

Three days' rest this year. And to do that there's been some lead up consideration and in the the Dallas Baptist start you're able to get him out before he threw. And by excessive number I don't mean that you ever let guys go excessive number for what's reasonable but but cut it to his -- limited that game and then. To come back on for days and that a 107 and a complete game the other night certainly not have a big stressed number for him the way it was --

Now and in. He throws somewhat effortless and and it was a 62 game in mean gene or lack of you know we've in the Senate satan it's that it's at 34 run lead you're thinking okay do we get him out of here. To save fifteen pitches because we know wanna bring back Saturday. But -- you know when it's four -- that's right on the borderline of do not do it and there's some guys in the bullpen we believe -- but if you hooking with a three or 44 run lead. And the bullpen blows -- you don't sleep their all offseason. Forget them fighter -- you don't sleep the whole off season so we left him in there. And it took his pitch count up to like 770. It would have been in the ninety's. Because it was still pretty close games who are wanting and headlining get a complete game.

And it seemed to be at a fairly common Phelan you know if you talk to the other teams. That pretty much everybody had that in mind if they got to Saturday they were gonna throw their number one on three days and that's -- as we know that's what Illinois State's gonna do. Core remains almost that the same situation -- a 103804. In seven innings on Tuesday yeah I think that was everybody's mindset. But. And I don't wanted to start throwing rocks at every other team I can't see how many times we play in tournaments in and people won't bring their. First game starter back with two days' rest. So I think three days' rest just clean their bodies -- now like this is -- an absolute no brainer in an uncomfortable and that too. So I don't think there was any team that was of the mindset now we -- more than three days the other question is. Coming back on three days will it automatically in your mind limit how many pitches he can go tomorrow and that's a good question in an -- and satellite -- I think it depends on. On him I think it depends on. On how he's throwing his comfort level we'll check in lot of times you don't have to check to see how they're throwing you see how -- laboring. But attacks Uggla to gene when their approached the pitch count or close to Tulsa OK listen Hamas and we need to get him right here. As long as he's thrown fine. We can leading as long as it's Camden get out of control a -- just know this is what I expect -- Islamic thinking they started -- wall and all watch that with Jordan Cooper you can OP. You know that is this is normal outing but that's some we will watch all right. We have David is our first caller of -- night and again if he had -- maybe a few minutes late were certainly encouraging you to give us call you a question a thought for -- so 436. Thirteen thirty is that number and David is our first guest tonight David.

Yeah I get to Beantown and hello Burton might. Well I tried to step up but -- be -- it's it's. And I get up early and I had a radio I -- actually developed with the fourth first pitch and woke up Manila titans -- begin with so corporate so I didn't know what it would go on until this morning. -- Go to I'll tell you. The plate we get finished this year I know we struggled the whole year off and on we've been hot and cold. Opera non mainly here called it measured. Here the last month we we've been. Really scared. No matter what happens tomorrow -- don't -- things that we should have a -- deserving to be -- and that in the NCAA. I think you guys.

But I appreciate the call I appreciate the question to me in my we're talking off the air in that Tammy Keller a safety. Now we're talking about this before we went on the show and I've been very adamant about this I've made this -- seeker. That I think. That if we don't win tomorrow we definitely should get in I have made no secret about that I I feel very strongly about that. Unfortunately I'm not on the NCAA committee gene Stephenson is not on the NCAA committee we do you know some people on the committee. That when you know people on the committee you know they usually tell you -- had just keep one in the minutes and non issue. And that is our plan I mean we need to take care of business tomorrow or plant in Illinois State team have a lot of respect for the goal of the outstanding pitcher. This team's -- lot of confidence they're well -- so it's going to be a tough game we know that. So that's number one when when it you don't have to stress on money set -- you know little bubble team -- in -- watching you know that you those TV clips all the time and it's like everybody's. Either euphoric you're there you know it's boring it. But -- we don't wanna be in that situation that if we are. You look at it. In Myanmar we're talking about -- twelve and one in our last thirteen games so the worst we'd be even of the lost -- twelve and two. The other thing Mike pointed out that I didn't know where thirteen and eight against top 100 RPI teams. The latest RPI that I looked at today I think were 53. Are women losses one of the tops in the country which he -- it was my body fifth top 2525. In the country win loss. Were playing well right now the other thing Mike pointed out was that we all know it's Charlie Lowell. Picture this team which Charlie lol all through the conference season in the pushed Josh meant to the Tuesday starter which he was early. And were completely different team -- he's back now he's healthy he's proven that that he's okay and pitching well which. You know I did not expect him to be as good as he's -- and his three counts because a lot of times. It's tough when somebody comes back in the middle years county get the feel back Eric Schaeffer did at three years ago on out though while that's here Jaipur in and the guy amazes me. Charlie Lowell with the same thing he was outstanding last -- for 573. Pitches so you go that are regional -- comfortable 8592. You just build Lima. So that's basically what you're gonna yet. You know from a starter so. -- that should be pointed out in the NC committee had look at the three starters they have. In my deal is not only do we. Our thirteen are we eighteen -- network team that can go win win. So to me it should be a no brainer. That obviously common black and gold not looking at our scenario I'm not looking at the other teams scenarios. But if you wanna know more on coming from we didn't get in I would be just devastated. All right David thanks for the call and again we encourage your phone calls for -- 43613. Thirty we do need to take time out. And we will continue with the right candidate show right after this.

And he will get -- all hooked up and right now we have Roberts with a call Robert.

Hotel is wondering what players on this team do you feel or expect to see playing in the major leagues someday. Thank you.

Well they yeah that is at an inner. Question. And all -- players listen the -- certainly some after an Amber MacArthur. That's. I don't others guys that are getting pro winters mean you go up and down. Our line up in the guys that probably will get the most professional interest as far as potential big leaguers. I think at some point you're gonna look at Johnny cool is that guy that can be a very high rap is draft eligible this year. I think he's still got a lot of maturing to do. He certainly has a frame that's gonna get dig it's gonna get strong these are it shows how hard that -- do -- to prove he's gaining top and -- first base. I think he's a guy that you could look at as it is likely prospect. You look at a guy like Jordan Cooper who's getting a lot of pro attention. I just as a great make up as a great demeanor. Not overpowering but you know every time we talk about command we talk about Jordon Cooper. I think he's got a chance to do you that you look at a guy like Charlie Lowell who -- last night he's 89092. Left handed deceptive. His breaking balls gotten better he's now has appealed for a changeup you can look at him as a kind of prospect Brian land. Too we all were ready to shoot because he's not eligible but I think he struck out by the way. He made the honor roll first semester or excuse me seconds mr. -- the first master -- It would have been nice having him in the bullpen and diseases 68 left -- low nineties could curve ball I mean you gotta look at him as a big time prospect. Over in the pay check his freshman. Right hander I think is he gains confidence in the and is able to repeat his delivery. You can see him as a guy that says gonna get a lot of pro attention. You know smelly guys and have good arms to chance osment grim concrete there's lot of pitchers in there that I think given the right scenario. He who knows that could go out and do well a Tim Kelly and -- other pitches and trees into the word that is kind of mechanics Teamsters that the type. A position player wise. Guys are forgot how to perhaps I mean he looks like a big big league infielder -- mean he's got -- above average Major League arm. He's going to figured out at the plate you know I think switch in early may be getting off to a start -- inmates -- you press a little bit. You look at -- Preston springer he's got to get better defensively he's got a bat. It's gonna it's in the -- And normally there's somebody out but that's just a few of the Kevin in my mind I know -- talked around it a little bit. But I think I don't think it's crazy to think there's 234 guys five guys explain the big leagues up his team.

All right get Robert thank -- for the call again for 3613 thirty if you have a question for grip on the brick -- to show. I don't know how much more we can say about Jordon Cooper and -- everything that he's been doing. Tim Kelly. Now on his last six or seven starts as an ERA under two that he had. I guess you'd -- call it compared to he's been doing lately a little bit of the sub par outing in his last start against Dallas Baptist but. Right back on track in the second game of the tournament here and what's been the key for him is in terms of just going from. Not as good as he was last year early to be that guy and better down the stretch here.

I think it's just a matter didn't count what I don't know early in the year -- press and actually early in the year he was good in the and we we had a lot of discussion about did we kill is burning with there -- an Oral Roberts bank. And I discuss that with the so we had several power house I don't wanna say -- magically had one attorney -- but I remember. Bring any minute talkative about can these features junior year that happy was just not very good so all this and he finished with a great season. And I know was you know gene -- stock today Jimmy Thomas from -- and you know everybody on the staff it's your brain at some point. So I think everybody would have you know had different conversations winning. I think the Oklahoma State game helped me. Because he even only gave up three in the first he looked pretty good and then he threw up three zeroes and he looked like himself I think he. Gained confidence in that game because and we followed that up with the start the Sunday game at Illinois State. Where he was really good. And I think it's just -- a little deal Grassley it's like okay I'm back home again. His last year three games he's looked outstanding he said great presence on the man on the -- presence Tim Kelly and most of last year. And now I'm also an -- look at it is numbers. In any time you went double figure games injury -- under four I think you're an all American candidate such talent Tammy has had okay -- Cooper should be. A no brainer all American in my head but let's don't list only Tim Kelly out of the mix. Because that's like top five in the country and -- just looked diet reports OK okay that's what I thought. In when your guys -- for your year fourth in the country and win hands. That's all American type stuff in his numbers were better last year everything but the -- law so. -- that's how -- strong one down and and we talked about Cooper we've talked about lol so we're -- three guys out there that are but he believes.

I would got a call from Don Don thanks for joining us on the rich -- show.

If -- okay are you guys doing here. They only got I've got kind of a three fold question maybe. That you can take -- wanted to -- that I guess if you want that. I'm curious. Them properly kids this year in and -- seems like they just don't play like they used to the question number one would be. -- He's shaped like you know this quad that you had. In 85. That's the first question the second question is what is the best that got decision you ever made. And then the third question is key you say there. Burt Reynolds -- with smoke in the band at one and all our stay on the line and listen to your answer.

Weydedat you know there's some -- from an 85 team -- I have a feeling this is a lot of room well right they put somebody up to this model recognizes voice that this is definitely a planet call from the 85 team. And this is that gets that way enemy. Welcome and the welcoming that 85 team his heaven their informal. It's not like a university function they're -- their 25 year union. This weekend they play golf today I think they're probably in some local tavern by had to guess right now. And hopefully won't make it out of the game tomorrow 130000. Outstanding team that team was having how many games -- sixty some I hear him. And and was that game away from Omaha plane and a tough Oklahoma State regional. And that team was just phenomenal in every way and and I don't wanna start name and guys because I'm gonna miss somebody. I I wanna say any of those guys listening. I still to this day of all the calls I've made and Greg sugar gliders and how -- did not get out of the art at Stillwater that night for three run homer is still don't believe. Everything left you're exactly Neitzel who looked like he had a pretty good I don't know what happened there either. Gary ward had deal with god and other than it that. Anyway that team played hard that team was throwback guys I love those guys. Had a phenomenal year it is a shame that they didn't get to -- that team because it was very deserving. So that was one of my favorite teams want my favorite group of guys like as they welcome back. It's good you guys can get together on this week in the come. Hang out which stopped the downside is I can't hang with you guys tonight I've got to get up and I never recruit and channel we got to try to win a baseball -- so I can't do any. Other fun stuff for them nominated -- but they'll they'll probably be so worn out by the end they'll be like. -- bad it anyway. Do best -- written well let's go let's go the other first super Reynolds peak was smoking in the end I did and now I'm not sure where that question because there I don't know that and I touch you might have an opinion I didn't happen. This dugout as solid a great question they get humor out of that because in 1982. Was last year arrested down by Jean during in the dugout and finally -- through this movie and the other hand that I got everybody gets a kick out of that because -- that's the best decision ever made. It because you know we did ups did little spats during the game so we just like go to the opposite ends of the -- that's a good decision it's it's it's worked in. So I know that that's the answer they were looking for.

but it thanks for the call. 43613. Thirty the number on the -- that show and debt he touched on this that I I didn't wanna bring this stuff Charlie lol. In three appearances since coming back from over a month off. -- third innings four hits one unearned run six walks seventeen. Strikeouts I'd I don't know what your did your most optimistic outlook on his return how you couldn't expect.

It is anything like this absolutely not -- and when we were rehab at him. I mean Jimmy Thomas had many conversations about it traumatic had a couple with gene the mean JT were looking into each article on. It's not happened that's fool's gold okay he star and now he doesn't feel too much now that's getting better. But as time has gone on we're thank -- and getting back in shape and how's he gonna give his confidence back. So all the settings start on pain free we start on -- fans. I think here's the biggest key I think Charlie in his mind body was gonna come back a lot of times when guys get hurt they check out mentally. And I think okay. Yeah I don't feel any pain. But they start looked in the summer ball or they start looking in next fall and then they're done. But the two things that happened with -- and shape for for sure and what Charlie lol he never checked out mentally I think he thought he was going to be back in the mix. And hit the ground running when we did get him on the mound. And that's hard to do you don't see that you still a lot of times. Guys come back and it's like the big league clubs -- put him in the minor leagues in the struggle just for Peru a week a month and then finally when they get it together they bring them up. So for him to do what he is done for him to give us five innings last night. Is absolutely utopia I mean we we've never could've expected it to be that it.

Now the next question that is. 7374. Pitches last night. Assuming you do get to play at another tournament which we kind of X factors in certainly at least hope for. What's may be the next step how much did you expect from him reasonably as you continue this comeback process.

McCain's yup and another 1085. Migrants and once again last night he wanted to stay in the game and I circled back asking me you know they said no I wasn't tired I was still intent. But if we're gonna have this reputation for taking care guys and doing the right thing 73 pitches it was a perfect time to getting -- just struck out the left hander they were going on the middle Leo order. He had he had jumped his pitches by -- from the time before they keep these 63 against Dallas Baptist it was the perfect time -- getting. And yes -- game that that you feel like you've got to win to keep you alive and -- met. There's there's a somewhat obvious part of you saying let's leading missionaries gin people up but the right thing to do was to get him out of.

There and that's what we put a question on Charlie and I know that via the velocity came back nicely he's been thrown hard ever since he came back really sharp breaking ball. When he is tried to throw the changeup and bullpen that's what -- start to feel a little bit of that tightness or just a little a little twinge in his at a pitch that is is getting any closer to being able to it to be usable more often.

Yeah I it's fine now and he did throw Som I mean appear by looks like his breaking ball at times but he did throw some change at last night. That was a concern for me going into the Dallas Baptist games start him because this is a team that can really hit. And and I said Gina said okay we're also gonna go -- which you know I can't -- it's all fastball slider. And I don't know hook up. And I'm glad Dallas Baptist it -- that he wasn't challenging -- because they figured up little bit more. But today he's deceptive enough that he has that little short quick arm action from the left side and you can tell 1990s count on it he spotted it still pretty hard to square up and any -- breaking ball working that day to. But now I has added that changeup so he has the whole repertoire now. Not just a matter of going out you don't ever want to get too comfortable when giving all these glowing recommendations are not recommendations that. I want beginning this much love -- thrown more but he did yesterday so it's like god let's give him his props we got time to settle back in. And then -- downplay Golan into the next start because I don't wanna sit here and just goal and over about how wonderful Jordon Cooper has even though we loving because he's got to do it again Amara. I was telling -- hope this is intimidating game. And I was talent not her champion his candidate to game on -- Missouri valley TV to -- a sit as a pitching coaches or want to break down these guys they say. The minute you start in two comfortable about anything or anybody. It blows up on I was given the example of Mike Pelfrey was the one I think it was against northern Iowa back in his junior year so 195 and 97. He gets the first two guys out and I remember thinking are smart enough I have never set it and never would say it but I remember thinking these guys had no chance. I I didn't even have the thought in my head. It was early in my -- hits the next -- and expect it's a player double to Bronson like about a two minute span and I'm over their mumbling to myself like you idiot. I have even setting -- to spot so I'm very very you know I am you know how bad I am about this making sure that you don't get too proud of yourself. On the same outlets where you're listening right now. 43613. Thirty is the number to call if you have a question or thought for -- We're gonna get to our shocker pitcher of the week presented by. The pitcher in the wake and I have a few options. Some guys really threw well this week in and we have some guys that are doing what we need him to do and a told the pitching staff last few weeks that you look like Wichita State pitchers now. You don't need to try to do anything special you don't need to try to be somebody you're not just do which have been trained to do. And we have enough guys that we can get to where we need to. Yet so we have a lot of guys doing that now and they just need to stay consistent state locked again but. With that in sets me it's gotta be Tim Kelly we did the show. Last Friday so -- not one of the options because he did have one really good game. But Tim Kelly had to he -- great that night against Dallas Baptist he did give up some runs and I think the six the Senate that still. Still threw well get the man. And then the game he gave us against Evansville two nights ago just outstanding complete game against -- Evansville team that earlier that day. Had just was I was at that day -- southern Illinois the day before they -- just pop them all over the yard report home runs. And were really swing in the back. With a lot of confidence in dispute Illinois State two out of three so they came in the to determine with a lot of confidence and lot of confidence plate and he made him look very ordinary so it's gotta be.

Yeah I was gonna ask you about him and and Cooper in their other guys that those two guys in particular because. Lately they've been pitching a lot of innings they're going -- given you seven denied every time out. And I was gonna ask you about his coaching guys that. Those two really kind of epitomize so many of the things that you have talked about on your pitching tip of the week over the years smart guys. Guys are students of the game guys that. Pay attention to everything that's going on if if they see you guys may you know not hitting a particular pitch they're gonna go right back there to it and -- It's gotta be a pleasure to coach guys like that even if they don't have their best stuff particularly on a given night.

Well there's no question that guys like that you like when they're on the mound in his day. The term I love to give it is give me the day off. Go out there and take care business and give me the day off you know that was what can speedster -- that's what down Michael would do. From the 85 -- David -- you know David did yeah. Some days when he go natural for a -- out that in the next day it made via blue collar walk or give up nine hits but he still went by before. And guys like theater commander what they're doing biggest winners. They understand what it takes that's what I loved about -- shape for you know weird shape or was system Bulldog he go out like say. I always -- pitchers. You know we you can win on a blue collar day. That's a sign of -- pitcher when you can go out and give up 345 rounds that you hang around for 789 innings he's still win the game. Like -- Jack Morse. That -- for so long in the big leagues coaches love that now I see don't get me wrong elected to that shut out a lot better. But the big guys that really understand the game the guys who hang in there those are the guys that are really the sign of great pitchers.

And and you know I I should -- said this at the time we got the call from whoever was from the 85 team. I don't think any of them would have hurt feelings about this that you look back at at that pitching staff. And you had guys like. King Greenwood rich MacIntyre -- fever. Guys that were not as physically gifted as some of the guys they weren't the Mike Pelfrey is an even Jordon Cooper and some of the guys that you've had since then. But guys that knew how to pitch in and guys that really. Kind of symbolized all the things she talked about.

What you -- can Greenwood can you Greenwood in 1980 I was the Missouri Valley Conference pitcher in the year he walked on in 1982 out of Goddard high school. In got about ten innings his first year second year he crept in -- got some more and the time he left here I think he was what fourteen into or something. And was misery though a conference pitcher of the year in which just a Bulldog on the mine mail. He's not a lot different than Tim Kelly loves he even though operating east. Had a good breaking ball. Tim Kelly is manuals smoother but Kenny green it was a guy that I love when he pitched he was a guy that's like -- writer here's the ball. You go take your business he's a straight a student low maintenance the -- bit -- those guys any day of the week rich Mac entire. Who will ever forget the game he threw against Indiana State. Here in the valley tournament that was to that it's the season we felt like we needed to win the turn of it. In Indiana State can really hear it in those days and he went out Carrie Rickey brought a cabinet Timmy says hi I know. You always want us to work up the fastball but his breaking ball is stupid tonight I'm gonna call it unbreakable places. Get him out and you'll get along with me out here in rich MacIntyre had a phenomenal game delegates at stake. He Mitch John Popper it was a guy who go out battle Korea. You start talking about a mark Cheney came here at a Garden City junior college. That mark thingy at the time he left -- last year. Bulldog applicable pan in that get a chance go play pro ball. And then let's forget the guys like the Randy Johnson's of the world mamma talking about Randy Johnson in mid -- left hander Randy Johnson are talking about our rainy Johnson. Randy Johnson will decide arm delivery. I don't wanna hurt your -- was probably about eighty miles an hour but who will forget the game he gave us in Hawaii. Win they forget who our starter -- weather could run it up their little bits we brought in Randy Johnson electrified and third I don't know if you give up yet. Because he -- that it. And there's just a lot of those guys in the 85 team had a dog is it it had the pits and the depth like it hit to deepen ever ever position I was joke joke -- mark Grogan. Mark Grogan didn't get a line at a later in the year because it was an injury to somebody. That is home run total the last third of the season I said are you were number two. In home run percentage by Ian Kennedy hit 48 at seven or whatever but you didn't play the last third of the season. There's just a lot of great guys -- that team medal and a lot of guys knew how to play the game -- baseball.

Philadelphia Phillies yes and he had a great first half than I was really. Frustrated that I think get a chance to get down there were in the middle recruit at that time and he obviously great honor. Adequate help -- I guess he was texting -- all their like best buddies. When Pelfrey got married when -- hog got married there were there in each other's weddings and -- all said that he was texting him today because he found out we were bring him back Jordon Cooper on Saturday. And he was like all over -- he was gonna call mainly because he still bitter that I -- we would not bring him back back in Arkansas. In 2004. I should be all reminding. Cooper's on three days' rest Pelfrey is only on two. He said okay I'll colleagues note that I remember though he wanted to throw absolutely and he's on today's threats feared that on three I would've been great no problem.

Later Applebee's is open until midnight or later this year could enjoy your favorites at Applebee's before or after any shocker game. Getting back to our weekly stuff let's get to the pitching tip. Of the week it's presented by -- right builders and former Wichita State pitcher Mike from right after -- builders has been building new homes in the area since 2003. Right now you can turn your empty basement into a warm living center for your family and you'll never find a better time to finish your home. When you contract the -- right builders to do a complete basement. As part of the deal though. Go ahead and install free home theater including a plasma TV so give my can call 682. 8453. Or you can go on line to drum right BLDRs dot com.

And Mike drum rights. Kind of fits and -- what might tip of the week is. This is about. Command. My drummer I had a great arm -- freshman year he was you start to approach ninety. There's a lot of guys on our staff right now that they. Jordon Cooper obviously can hit ninety Tim Kelly will touch night Josh Smith has hit ninety Clinton key received ninety -- focus -- ninety Tyler Fleming will not -- this week he got hurt me let him down society at ninety. Charlie Lowell is hit pitches a monument paycheck nine. Can't ninety mile -- ninety -- ninety Sussman ninety -- ninety we have a staff full of guys maybe more so than most teams in the country. That can wrap it up there but that's not the key. These guys -- get people out in the guys have success of the guys to figure out it's about command and that's what turned my -- right around Mike -- right is soft.

year -- known -- breaking ball which is a great break from author for a strike he start the exchange for a strike and even though his velocity was already good it got nothin' but better. In when he left yours first round draft on midnight east but the quicker you get you young guys that are listening right now you have got to understand -- man. And classic command I mean spot -- fastball. And be able throw something other than your fastball for strike -- thirteen years old navy to change. If your high school yes you can start on breaking pitches may be -- breaking pitch in a change. But the guys that are successful are the guys can throw at least two preferably three pitches on any count. And can spot their fastball so the key to pitching number one is coming. -- that might -- right set a single game record is seventeen strikeouts in Illinois State he had the good fastball and pitched off his fastball. But it was that breaking ball that got most of the strikeouts over the course of the night and that's what you're gonna see anybody can turn fastball. As you go up from levels you can find that out. You just don't find very many teams anymore that you can blow the ball -- because guys are stronger. Hand in you to see a lot of things going on now. The maybe you didn't see before that there's very few teams that your gonna face very few hitters that you can say okay here's a fastball try to catch up with. Lester mid -- like a pill for your drive for girl -- But the guys struggle with in a perfect examples -- from Evansville came against us was named Lloyd says. He was lower eighties but he had -- baffled for 456. Innings because he used on three pitches for strike any spot as fastball so it's all about me.

Doesn't matter of fact I was I was gonna go back to this because. We're so wrapped up in the valley turned him at this week and obviously that's top of mind that since we did the last show. A couple of games with Dallas Baptist and as you mentioned that's a team that can really hit and not just against. Lesser names because they're Dallas Baptist they played a very good schedule and so the performances against Dallas Baptist I thought were significant in terms of of where your staff has developed. And also -- and change it has certainly made some good points about it but the last game that you faced them. Your face a left candidates only thrown about 84 may be 85. But he's throwing off speed stuff in the school mid to upper sixties and when you can get that kind of difference in what you're seeing doesn't really matter how larger throw they can still mess you up.

Well no question it's like kind of hit -- yeah -- yeah you thought and then you pull back and whatever the case may be. Our camera guys trying to hit Steve forward and and no boots change ups and it was like a good feeling them on the mound. On your team because you know they were low eighties kind of guys. But they knew how to pitch and that's what you saw from the left hander Travis like off obviously it crafted -- and molded him how you pitch. But that was the day I told my pitchers after that we can pass it on through with the way you guys through this week in because Dallas Baptist isn't very legitimate -- team. We we had him handcuffed all weekend long minus one inning I think they scored four runs in one inning and that's Jim Kelly. That overall we had a -- all -- that's a team that really hit in on Sunday -- it was Saturday because we -- plan on Sunday -- blown out when he mine's nine miles an hour. And we give up two hits and I think they they got like three or four -- whatever the case may be there was tuneup and game. And that just goes to show you. If the -- talent now we still make it your pitches and you're not worried don't economy elements you can still be real successful. And this isn't it gets a team that can -- this is against the team that can -- anybody.

Well we are out of time it has gone by very quickly we appreciate all of your phone calls the shocker is in the championship game of the valley tournament tomorrow against Illinois State at 130 our free game that one -- And next week at this time we certainly expect at the very least hope that will be doing the show from -- reach.

Fortunately we were planned well in mag which is when you wanna be planned well. And while we talked about it. I'd be devastated in and frankly stunned. And and I know a lot of people don't feel that way. If we didn't get an at large but we don't want have to be -- their money wait and up the screen this year for on we need to take care of business tomorrow.
